Faith is the way we open ourselves to the graces made available to the human race through Christ. It does not call for irrational obedience, but, rather, a conscious commitment to entrust our lives to God's care that we might be guided by God's Spirit. Faith comes from hearing the Word, and from consenting to God's desire to act in our hearts and lives. You have been exercising your faith throughout this retreat, but today we focus more explicitly on the response of faith.

Focus: Responding in Faith

Scripture Readings

A. Matthew 9: 18-31 (or just 27-31)

B. Romans 5: 1-10

C. John 9: 1-7

------------

End of day: We’re almost come to the end of our retreat. Are you more lovingly present through the days? Make a special effort to keep this focus for your last retreat day.

A prayer:

You want me to tell you why God is to be loved and how much. I answer, the reason for loving God is God Himself; and the measure of love due to Him is immeasurable love. . . We are to love God for Himself, because of a twofold reason; nothing is more reasonable, nothing more profitable.
- St. Bernard of Clairvaux, On Loving God
