Is "God" the name of the one supreme being or the name of a kind of being, or both?

The way I see it, most people use God to refer to THE Supreme Being who is recognized and worshipped in many religions. So that would be God = Supreme Being, kind of a generic reference, if you will.

The more specific references--Elohim, Abba, Father, Allah, etc.--go with specific religious traditions.
