Almost put this one under Morality/Theology. I haven't seen the film yet, but hope to. The subject isn't easy to navigate, nor should it be with all the influences that bear upon you, and from within, when considering it. As I read the writer's CNN column, I could relate to some of her grief, since a side of my family was slave owners, and, according to one of my grandparents, quite cruel. This issue seems to go to transgenerational pain and how complicated it is for those who have such bleak histories to overcome it. We tend to think that after so many generations this pain just fades, although some of the research suggest otherwise. And I know the racist card can easily be played here. So when I see the movie I'll post impressions. Anybody already seen it? Here's the movie's website: www.tracesofthetrade.org | |||
