It's interesting to read how the author (a materialist) grapples with this phenomenon, which might be otherwise understood as psychic communication.

Given a more robust anthropology that affirms the reality of a spiritual soul operating through the body and psyche, it seems that some of these experiences could be understood as two souls having more intense spiritual communication. We're probably always communicating with other souls at some level, but with these experiences, there is a breakthrough to a higher level of recognition.
