AMH v2.0Hi Katy:
The concert was great! Andy McKee was also joined by Antoine DuFour, who also plays this style of guitar - fingerstyle, utilizing alternate tunings, sort of a hybrid folk, Celtic, classical jazz fusion. To see this style, click on the different you tube videos -note the hits on Andy McKee's "Drifting"- 12 million hits. Most of what is on You tube is from their collaborative DVD.
I agree with you regarding the Noel album - excellent musicians and vocals.

ClareHi
I'm not sure whether this is the right area in this forum to ask this. But its about Bernadette Roberts' books, and DVD's. Has anyone here read them or seen them, and if so, can you comment? I found that what she had to say, was very confirming of my spiritual journey so far, ( I have a way to go yet,) I loved the simplicity of her DVD's. Her books include What is Self. And the Experience of No-Self.
Perhaps these have been discussed a while back, and if so, let me know and I will search the archives.
Thank you
Clare

<w.c.>Ave Maria by a 12 year old . . . but when she sings she seems transformed by the love that pours through her:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlO0ikRPZrc Six year old pianist who apparently composes almost as well as she learns Mozart. Her eyes tell the bigger story, I think:

That's incredible. I got that electric feeling as she started singing. What an amazing voice for a 12 year old.
For the Schubert I also like this European singer called Lara Fabian:

<w.c.>A lovely interaction with his audience. Nice to know bland and disharmonic voices can blend so well with those capable of holding a pitch, even this side of heaven. Our voices will surely be redeemed as well.

StephenHere's one of my favourite voices - a chubby little Italian cherub, God bless 'im.

<w.c.>Thank you Stephen. Same to you.
And Caruso, another hefty Italian. They both are so good even with the scratchy recordings.

<HeartPrayer>One of the best,
All Along the Watchtower, from one of my favourite guitarists.
Hendrix may play hard, but there is not a single superfluous note.
An amazing performance.
Hey, WC, long time no see!

StephenI actually like the scratchiness. Kind of otherwordly. Ghostly. A voice from beyond the grave

.
(Actually, what does that say about the soul's immortality, if anything? Is something of Gigli's soul caught on vinyl or plastic disc? I certainly feel something of his soul when I hear him sing? Same goes for old photos. Strange to think a soul could be extinguished and yet something of the person lives on in photographs or recordings. Which is why old Crazy Horse never allowed himself to be photographed, I suppose.)

<HeartPrayer>I never listened much to Zappa in my younger days, but have certainly acquired a taste for him in later years, thanks in part to some excellent TV documentaries. Some of it can be demanding to my ears, but almost invariably fascinating.
What I found really astonishing was when a friend introduced me to his classical compositions about 15 years ago. My first response was "No way"!
I was absolutely enthralled. Still am.
And then, of course, another cup of tea entirely (exquisite) is Lour Harrison.

<HeartPrayer>Stephen, that was an amazing guitar solo!
Thanks for posting the link.

<HeartPrayer>... what is a disgrace, of course, is the way the US government applied pressure against Vclav Havel to withdraw the appointment of Frank as a key consultant to his country. As a brilliant capitalist, Frank was well prepared to make valuable contributions to post-communist Czechoslovakia.
But we wont talk about that. Right?
Well just play the video of the rather inventive
Welcome to the United States.

<w.c.>Thank you, HP. I'm stictly limited to the softer threads. Well, even then I'll have to muzzle myself, which I'm not sure can be self-administered . . . .
02 July 2008, 10:50 PM
<HeartPrayer>Softer threads and strings...
I mention
Lou Harrison. Check these out:
Jahla Avalokiteshvara If you can find it, you may like Harrisons California Symphony as well.
And then, just for you, here is some
world-class figure skating to music by Jules Massenet. Enjoy!
