Somehow I'd missed this one . . .

I don't have any experience with the groups, but do know Tom Ryan, a priest in Canada who's written on the topic (along with Christian yoga). Fr. Tom has been doing Christian meditation in this tradition for years and has found good fruit from it in his life. It's different from Centering Prayer in that it makes use of a mantra (usually "maranatha"), which is repeated mentally until a deeper silence opens. The will is not exercised toward God as in Centering and other forms of Christian prayer, so this is definitely different and is not really found in the Christian spiritual tradition until Main's teaching emerged. Some have discouraged its use because of the mantra dynamic, but, in the case of Fr. Tom and many others, the fruit of the practice is obviously very good.
