"...and besides all this, today is the third day since these things were done" (Lk. 24:21). "These things were done" included the sealing of the sepulchre and setting a watch at the tomb -- ordered by Pilate, a day after the crucifixion (Matt. 27: 62-66).

Sunday was the third day from Thursday, making a late Wednesday crucifixion possible.

Has anyone ever considered the universality of the Lord's Passover (Lev. 23:5)?

One day, when John the Baptist saw Jesus, he said, 'Behold the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world' (Jn. 1:20).

The Israelites killed lambs, etc., in order to take away the sins of that one nation, to take away the sins of the people of Israel.

What John the Baptist said about Jesus -- being the Lamb that takes away the sins of the whole world -- elevated the Passover to universal status. No longer was this a mere holiday, or appointed season, for just one nation. Passover became globally focused on the One True Lamb who was to shed His blood and sacrifice His body for all of humanity (1Cor. 5: 7-9 / Isaiah 53).
