Why are American Catholics Considered a Problem? Login/Join

Why are American Catholics (USA Catholics) considered a problem by the Roman Catholic Church?

If I had been born a Catholic, I would be a priest and I would trust the decisions of the Mother Church to be God guided. I might have a problem with what a fellow priest is doing, but never with the Mother Church.

I've heard that about American Catholics as well. On the whole, we're more invested in modern and post-modern ways of looking at things than the Vatican, which is still decidedly pre-modern in its outlook. This makes for a huge gap in how one values hierarchy, authority, obedience, and other traditional values, for sure.

Re. pre-modern, modern and post-modern perspectives, see http://www.postmodernpsycholog...Systems/Overview.htm and several "old discussions" on this board as well. Also http://www.scriptoriumdaily.co...ter-to-evangelicals/ and http://www.darc.org/connelly/religion5.html and lots of other sites. This is a huge issue and one that the Vatican has basically lost control over for several decades now.

As far as I am concerned, if it was not for the Catholic Church, there wouldn't be any Christianity. Outside of a few bad eggs (which every religion has some of) the Catholic Church has been an outstanding gift to humanity.

There seems to be folks that are upset about the books that the Catholic Church left out of the Bible, I have read those books personally and I don't think that they belong in the Bible either. I think that they did a good job of deciding what is the word of God and what is not.

And while I am on my soapbox Smiler the Catholic Church has always made a place for and loved those that truly wished to seek God. Always. And holding something together and maintaining continuity over time in this world of things is always a difficult challenge. But the Catholic Church is still here and is still a gift to humanity.

love,

tuck
