Today is the anniversary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi, a man who kissed a stranger with leprosy. He wrote that when he was living in sin, the very sight of people with leprosy was "bitter." But God led him among them and made what was bitter sweet. St. Francis who was taken up on a vision of Christ crucified together with an angel of fire, the seraphim. May his fiery presence of suffering love live on.
