This seems to go beyond traditional positive thinking, and has some research support. As much as the soul can tap the heart of innate goodness in this life, there may not only be some value here, but one can also see connections to the natural-supernatural grace relationship:

And here's a recent article covering some of the interventions used:

Very interesting! The thoughts we give our attention to do effect our emotions. Of course, this is not a new discovery, but it's nice to see the scientific documentation for it.

I like him. I have his book Learned Optimism as well as What You Can Change and What You Can't, but must admit to skimming them only. Thank you for reminding me. He is very practical and realistic in a common sense that has become uncommon. Smiler

My mother upbraided me sharply via e-mail. She says that she trusts is the Lord rather than searching for things to fret about, which she noticed me doing
again. Frowner

Over and over again in studying the lives of the great, I have noticed the tendency toward self confidence and realism rather than naivette.

Winston Churchill was acutely aware of evil in the world, yet moved forward confidently and consistently. The whiskey may have taken the edge off his mania. Wink

The fool who persists in his folly will become wise, since God is the only remaining direction.

I'm just finishing up the greatest synthesis of all time inclusive of this topic since Plotinus wrote the Enneads and Paul wrote the New Testament
and the Spanish Carmelites applied it:

To read Aurobindo is to never be the same. I knew this, which is why I postponed it for a year. One must be ready.

The fool who persists in his folly will become wise, since God is the only remaining direction for those on the left-handed path.

Your Mom sounds like a wise woman, MM. Smiler

Why not start a thread somewhere to share what you're finding helpful in reading Arubindo. I've only read a few short essays from him, so I'd find it helpful.

I'd also like to hear a bit more about Aurobindo from you, MM.
