The death of my mother

Greetings gang,

As you may know, my mother has been in a nursing home with Alzheimers for the past 12 years, slowly disappearing from this world. Last night this dreadful disease took the last little vestige of life she had, with my Dad and two of my sisters at her side. It was a peaceful passing.

I'll be off-forum for the next few days. Please keep our family and our travels in your prayers.

Gratefully,

Phil

Sorry to hear about your Mom, Phil! I trust she is in a better place now after dealing with that for the past 12 years. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Phil--

I pray that God's peace and comfort be with you and your family.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for Phil's mom and all the love that she poured into her family. Thank you for receiving her into Your Kingdom.

"O that you would kiss me with the kisses of your mouth! For your love is better than wine, your anointing oils are fragrant, your name is oil poured out; therefore the maidens love you. Draw me after you, let us make haste. The king has brought me into his chambers. We will exult and rejoice in you; we will extol your love more than wine; rightly do they love you."

"The voice of my beloved! Behold, he comes, leaping upon the mountains, bounding over the hills. My beloved is like a gazelle, or a young stag. Behold, there he stands behind our wall, gazing in at the windows, looking through the lattice. My beloved speaks and says to me:

"Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away; for lo, the winter has past."

Song of Solomon 1:2-4 and 2: 8-11

Thank you all for your prayers and words of sympathy. Our travel went without incident -- over 1,600 miles of driving in three days.

I am grateful once again for the Church's process of celebrating the life of a believer and bidding her farewell. The funeral rite, in particular, is helpful unto commending a loved one into God's providential care.

Phil, I'm glad your trip went well.

You know I've been to non-Catholic funerals, etc. and always think how they are sadder ... I notice that people mourn more and take the death harder .. more so than Catholics.

Even on the death bed there is not much prayer, nor, of course "Last Rites". I remember when my mother was dying in my home, the priest came and prayed, he gave me prayers to say at the time of her death.. which I did.. Then that morning my sisters and brother came and we all prayed..

Everything was so nice. :-)
